Io-games or browser games in general had a big hype in 2016 but are still fun to play today. In this post we will show you our 5 favorites.
The classic: Chrome Dinosaur

One of the simplest if not the simplest game idea: Jump and duck to avoid obstacles and get as far as possible while everything starts to go faster. To play this you can either open “chrome://dino” (if you are using the chrome browser) or check out this website with the dinosaur game.
Last one standing – Battle Royale Games

Game likes surviv.io or zombsroyale.io are quite fun to play with mouse and keyboard but frustrating to play with a trackpad or on a mobile device browser. A fast internet connection is required to run these without lag. But you can most of the time find your favorite browser game as a optimized mobile version in your app store.
Hardware torture – Clicker Games

The most addicting gaming genre is the cookie clicker: continuously growing your cookie bakery and improving it can keep you from other work for some time. (While writing this article I already upgraded myself to 100 cookies per second 😉 ) The game principle is simple to explain: you click a button and get cookies for that, use these cookies to either buy “cookie-generators” or upgrades to increase the amount of generated cookies. If you don’t want to start a bakery I recommend checking out some clicker games made with scratch as you can find one for nearly every topic.
To eat and be eaten

The “og io-games” like slither.io or agar.io all work with the same principle. You are playing against other players with the goal to get the highest score. This can most of the time be achieved by either “eating” or by collecting items in the game environment. Tactics do play a role here as you can go the “risky” or normal way but the main goal is to just have fun.
Let’s continue with another similar game. Paper.io is a game where you are tasked to expand your territory by drawing new border. Other players can steal from your territory and if you run into the border of another player while he’s “drawing” a line you need to start from zero.
Racing games

If you like cars check out slowroads.io where you can choose between 3 vehicles and different environments to drive in. The game looks really realistic and offers an exceptionally great graphic for a browser game. Therefore it can be a bit of a struggle for your RAM.
If you are more into drifting check out astrorace. In this game you drift a spaceship.
Honorable mentions
Game development software websites like scratch or itch.io provide community-made games and are also a great place to start your own game development journey.
If you are more into puzzles check out wordle, a website where you need to guess a new 5-letter word every day in 6 tries.
If you know any other great browser games feel free to leave a comment under this article and check out our latest posts.
